Trumpet Vine Plant - Campsis radicans

A North America native, the Trumpet Vine plant, or Campsis radicans, offers rapid growth ability, powerful climbing skills, and ease of maintenance. Also known as the trumpet creeper, cow vine, and foxglove vine, the trumpet vine plant reaches a mature height of anywhere from 8 to 20 feet and thrives optimally in USDA suggested zones 5 to 9. Commonly referred to as the hummingbird plant for its ability to attract hummingbirds, it operates during a summer through fall bloom cycle. Favored by novice and beginner gardeners for drought tolerant capabilities and low maintenance levels. Blooms are in bold shades of red and orange with many hummingbird feeders designed after the actual blossoms themselves. The blossoms are distinctive, with orange medium shade clasped petals, elongated and enclosed blossom structure with outward flare at petal tips- similar in outline to the shape of a trumpet. The flowers average between 3 to 4 inches long and are highly prized by botanists and collectors. The hummingbird vine is a climbing vine and can grow extremely tall provided the necessary support. Because of its excellent climbing ability, the trumpet vine is suitable for surface coverage such as walls and fences and is a popular choice for gardeners desiring floral display in addition to coverage ability. Thrives optimally under full sun conditions and is a perfect choice for many landscapers because of planting and growing options. The vine is also ideal for container or pot planting because of low maintenance requirements and also grows quickly and easily without much pruning. Soil requirements are moderate, preferring moist, rich, well-drained soil. The trumpet vine is also flexible to climate conditions, tolerating height and cold well. Besides attracting hummingbirds, the blossoms of the trumpet vine also are favored by bees. The ornamental use of the plant is diverse, cultivated for flowers, bee-attracting ability and use as surface area coverage.

This vine has a lovely color and grows quickly. The blooms are really starting to show after almost a year of planting which is what I thought to begin with. on Mar 31st 2017

    5. Works good where I needed it

I was trying to cover up a ugly fence where we had cut down a bunch of weeds. This was suggested by some co-workers and I am hooked. I have had it for about 5 months now and have seen several inches of growth and even a few small blooms starting to appear. I cant wait to see where we are in a year from now. on Mar 29th 2017
